Valuing Our Life Support Systems Summit

November 6th & 7th 2014, British Library, London

The Natural Capital Initiative’s second summit “Valuing our Life Support Systems” brought together leading influencers from policy, academia, business and civil society to assess progress made and how to embed natural capital in planning and decision making. Dr. Dorothy Maxwell presented on status of business in integrating the six capitals of business models – financial, manufactured, intellectual, human, natural and social. Jawed Khan, Economist, Natural Capital Project Manager Measuing Well-Being Programme ONS chaired the session and discussed the ONS Wellbeing indicators. Professor Tim O’Riordan OBE, Emeritus Professor of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia and NCI chairman focused on social wellbeing in the content of natural settings and the policitcs of the Natural Capital Committee’s positioning in the age of austerity. Dr. Carlota Garcia-Manas, Head of Socially Responsible Investment at EIRIS discussed investor approaches to integrating natural and social capitals in decision making.
